Your gums form the foundations for your teeth and looking after them is paramount to your oral health and also your general health.

Bacteria build up on your teeth on a daily basis and the hygienist can teach you how to best maintain your oral health.

The treatment is usually pain free however if you do have any discomfort, the hygienist can use an anaesthetic gel or injection.

Yes, since May 2013, you can see a hygienist without first seeing a dentist.

Dental hygienists are registered dental professionals who are experts in their field of prevention and treatment of gum disease.

Our main role is to professionally clean your teeth and show you the best way to keep your mouth healthy.

We also give advice on diet to prevent dental decay and suggest ways to stop smoking.

We can also take X rays and impressions, carry out fissure sealants and fluoride treatments.

Teeth whitening treatments can be provided in conjunction with a dentist.

Each patient is treated as an individual, so your appointment will include multiple assessments, including general and oral health, a dental health diagnosis, a treatment plan and a professional cleaning.

Also advice on homecare products, diet, oral cancer screening and smoking cessation.

Some dentists will do this type of work, however many realise that the dental hygienist has been specially trained to carry out hygiene therapies and that they are the healthcare specialists and experts in their field, encouraging you to look after your teeth and gums.

At Premium Dental Hygiene Services, a new patient appointment is normally 60 mins with subsequent appointments 45 or 30 mins depending on the patient’s oral health.
